He is one of the biggest winners of FC Bayern’s still young season: Serge Gnabry (30)!
After struggling for consistency last year, the German international has become a central figure under Vincent Kompany (39). Gnabry has featured in 14 of Bayern’s 16 league matches so far — scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists — missing only two games due to minor adductor issues. Kompany has never left him out of the squad by choice this season.
Kompany’s Trust and Revival
The turning point? Kompany’s faith. The Belgian coach rebuilt Gnabry’s confidence through trust, communication, and tactical freedom. “Serge has always been among the top players,” Kompany said at the start of the season. “He’s had a few shaky moments, but his talent and quality have never been in doubt. You see it every day in training and in matches. I just hope he maintains this level all season.”

So far, that’s exactly what’s happening. Gnabry shone in Bayern’s 2–1 Champions League victory over PSG, assisting Luis Díaz’s opening goal and even striking the post later on — one of his most complete performances in recent years.
Benefiting from Change
Gnabry’s resurgence also stems from opportunity. With Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, Kingsley Coman, and Mathys Tel all leaving the club last summer, Bayern’s attacking depth thinned — opening up more consistent playing time for the German international.
Before this season, he was considered one of the likely departures. Now, his form has completely changed that narrative. The Stuttgart native is playing with renewed drive and confidence — a comeback story that few predicted just months ago.
A Future to Play For
Gnabry’s contract expires next summer, and his performances are reigniting talks of a possible renewal. Sporting director Max Eberl recently commented:
“He feels perfectly fine. He’s healthy, he’s not thinking about it — he’s playing, and he’s doing an outstanding job at the moment.”
If he maintains this level, Bayern could extend his stay — though likely under new financial terms. With an estimated salary of around €19 million per season, a pay cut would almost certainly be required.
From doubts to dominance, Gnabry’s revival is one of the stories of the season. Kompany’s trust — and the player’s own determination — have made Bayern’s No. 7 a key piece once again.
